Coaching Policy for Playing Up
  1. A request has to be made in writing to the age appropriate coach.
  2. Player has to be assessed by age appropriate coach first. Then be allowed to move up and be assessed with the older age group on the second day of evaluation.
  3. Player must meet the following criteria: be in Top 25% of age group and; be in top 66% of starting team playing up to
  4. Both coaches must agree the player meets the playing up criteria. In the event of a dispute the program Director of Coaching makes the decision.
  5. A player is NOT allowed to age up more than 1 year (unless there is no single age group category).
  6. The development of the player is paramount however, will not always be the determining factor in playing up.
  7. Any player where exceptional circumstances exist as defined by Director of Coaching.
Coaches can use the following guidelines to determine who plays up:
  • Player should be dominant in his own age group.
  • Player should be athletically and physically mature enough for the higher age. Some players’ technical and tactical ability help them dominate their own age group, but they might not be physically able to cope with the stronger, faster, older players.
  • Player should be mentally mature and able to relate to the older teammates in a social setting.
  • The player should be the one who wants to play up and demonstrates enthusiasm to do so.
