The fall season has been completed for high school age players and the remainders of our teams are scheduled to play through November with most teams attending the TOP Gun tournament in Pensacola November 7th & 8th.
The season to date has been highlighted by the kick off weekends for select and academy featuring fitness testing, parent education, team building activities followed by friendly games August 8th & 9th and August 15th. The Labor Day kick- off event in Jacksonville was the main tournament for the club. Teams have attended the Seminole tournament- Orlando for girls, Columbus Day-Tamp, Rose City-Thomasville, Endless Summer-Panama City and Emerald Coast-Destin. The coach’s evaluations of these tournaments have centered around good to excellent in most cases.
The academy program hosted an SSA date on September 28th with thirty eight teams attending and on October 24th, teams attended play dates in both Tifton and Gainesville, the play date for Thomasville is November 14th and will be a 3v3 format.
An NSCAA state diploma course was held August 22 and a TUFC Coaching meeting and training seminar was held October 25th featured Lance Clark, NSCAA goalkeeper instructor. The majority of the coaches have completed a fall season feedback sheet focusing on player issues, attendance, quality of training sessions, areas of improvements in the teams and goals for the spring season. Coaches were given an update on the March tournament from Pete Walker and Leo Flanagan introduced discussion of the formation of a regional league starting in the spring.
On a final note, I am pleased to announce that Mr. Mike Strickler Director of Coaching for Florida Youth Soccer Association will visit Tallahassee the weekend of November 14th and 15th to meet with TUFC parents/coaches to discuss Parent Education issues as seen from FYSA and also give an overview and answer questions on the present Olympic Development Program. Program times to be finalized. On November 15th he will conduct the ODP training center for boys and girls in the ‘96-‘97 age groups at the Meadows.
